ABSolute Fitness & Therapeutic Bodywork

2002_0511_124933AAWelcome to the ABSolute Fitness page of my website. You may have surmised by now that my day job is as a holistic health care provider. After raising two sons and working for nineteen years as a Physical Therapist Assistant, I ventured off my beaten path. A marriage to the love of my life and a move to the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts lead me to take my career to the next level. Earning certifications as a Licensed Massage Therapist, Personal Trainer, and Therapeutic Yoga instructor, I founded ABSolute Fitness & Therapeutic Bodywork in 2005. Many mentors and continuing education courses have contributed to development of what I consider to be a unique and multidimensional approach to health, healing, and wellness. As a private practice owner with over 35 years in the health and fitness industry, I bring a wealth of knowledge to my clients and workshop attendees…at least that’s what they tell me.

Testimonials

As a writer and a publicist, I spend a lot of time sitting at my computer.  After learning and following the simple stretching and ergonomics lessons taught by Ms. Sharon, I have less tension and can work for longer periods of time without painful interruption. Jennifer F.,–Author and CEO

PJ,

Just a short note to thank you for the work you did on my back and legs after my auto accident a few years ago. Your knowledge of how the human body works has gotten me back to normal. You taught me the benefits of regular body work and I’m eternally grateful. My only regret is we have left CT, and I have yet to find a therapist that can keep my back totally straightened out!!! Paul D.,–Retired Senior VP Global Sales and Marketing

Ms. Sharon’s knowledge of the whole human body is extraordinary.  Her care – physical, mental, emotional – has been very important to me for over ten years.  Her formal education in physical therapy, personal training, and holistic health, aide her in treating the whole person.  She has made a huge difference in my life as I’ve weathered the aging process with arthritis.  Redefining myself has not been easy, but Paula’s whole-person care and guidance is indispensable. Myrna R.,–Voice Coach

Ms. Sharon is a born healer. Her knowledge of the human anatomy and how it reacts to daily/job related activities, exercise, stress, pain and healing is amazing! She has successfully treated me with massage and exercises during my career as a painting contractor, and after abdominal and knee surgery. More importantly, she has taught me how to recognize, treat and avoid trigger points that cause me pain. I am so grateful to her and thrilled that she has taken the time to write this book. Thank you Paula! Gina B.–Painting Contractor

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and I get what I thought was Pleurisy.  My visit with PJ for a massage happened to be at the same time I was experiencing this pain.  She had me sit up straight as she examined my ribs.  Sure enough, one was twisted and she manipulated it back into place.  The pain relief was immediate and I saved a visit to the doctor, pain meds, prednisone, and an x-ray.

One visit I mentioned that there was pain between my shoulder blades.  She showed me an exercise that I could do to make sure I was keeping my shoulders properly aligned.  I am vigilant now about my posture and I have noticed that in addition to the shoulder discomfort being eliminated, the neck pain is also gone.  All because PJ taught me how to stand against a wall and align my shoulders. She took the time to really listen to me, to get to know my body, and her intuitive touch was extremely in tune with what my body needed.  Every massage is different, because she does what my body needs.  I am so very grateful to have found such a gifted practitioner.

I am a big believer in the medicinal and healing effects of massage.  I have been regularly seeing a massage therapist for ten years now.  I think of massage as an important component of my health plan.  Sarah E.,–Elementary School teacher

“Ms. Sharon’s approach to wellness and health is unique and different from any medical professional I’ve experienced.  One of my big problems with western/modern medicine is how it treats the ailment vs. the individual.  And Paula is all about the individual.

I see her for severe tendinitis in my shoulder from years of playing guitar.  And although we focus on my arm/shoulder during our sessions, she has gone deeper to uncover other possible causes for my pain.  From my posture, to the way I walk and stand on two feet, she’s helped me really understand that everything is connected.  Without her help, advice and guidance I wouldn’t be able to continue performing and playing the music I love.

Beyond her profound expertise on the human physique, she’s also one of the warmest people I know.  Medicine, whether synthetic or natural, has a way of working better when we’re open to it.  And with PJ, it’s easy to relax and put yourself in her care.  She preaches and practices full wellness, in mind/body and spirit.  In my experience with her, I’ve been able to find more of all three.” Josh H.,–Musician

“As a client for eight years, I look forward to every visit with PJ as I always leave feeling lighter, taller and completely relaxed. Her expertise in massage and invaluable advice for exercises have freed me from chronic neck pain. My massage sessions have turned into a staple in my overall wellness regimen—the perfect way to rejuvenate after many high-intensity workouts.” Kristin H.,–Communications Manager

“When I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s fifteen years ago, massage therapy was recommended to me as part of my treatment protocol. I’ve had many massage therapists over the years but once I began working with Ms. Sharon eight years ago, I found relief I never thought possible. PJ has helped me cope with my Parkinson’s disease and pain better than any other therapist I’ve tried. PJ is the best!” John J.,–Vietnam Veteran, USMC

PJ has a very holistic approach to treating her clients. She has great, educated advice that has helped open my eyes in regards to dietary/nutritional habits, and types of beneficial exercises, as well as an understanding of anatomy and physiology of the body. Her sound advice goes beyond the body’s processes. Approach PJ with any life problem and her wisdom is evident in her response. Liz H.–Student Nurse

I have been working with Ms. Sharon for about 10 years. I went to PJ initially for massage therapy and soon learned that she is one of the most incredible massage therapists I have ever treated with.  She takes a holistic approach to understanding your physical and mental being.  Her positive energy, her great listening skills and her intuitive nature are all of the many reasons that I keep going back to her. Not only is she great at what she does, she is also a very special person who takes a genuine interest in understanding you.  I thank Paula for helping me cope with many stressful situations and for helping me maintain my general well-being. Lisa M.,–Corporate Attorney
